Canoe Trip I: BWCAW

I just got back from a long weekend of playing hard. I am sore but loving the memories. A good friend of mine, Jon Kodet, invited me to go to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness on the Minnesota and Canada border. I had been camping there once before and jumped at the chance to go again.

We canoed and portaged into a campsite that we hence dubbed, St. Grog. Grog was the rum, water and kool-ade concoction that we choked down. I saw the best Northern Lights display that I have seen since I was a kid (no pictures though)--it was a vast white glow in the moonless northern sky with beams of white shooting up into space. The Milky Way was intense as well.

Jon and I were attacked by bats while doing some night fishing. Jon took it like a man and I whimpered like a school girl. There were about 20 bats circling our boat and dive bombing our lures--even while I was holding the lure in my hand.

I am thinking about planning a week-long trip next year. But until then I will just keep looking over my pictures. Here are a few (a lot) for you to look through. Most of them are self explanatory with the exception of the one where we were catching drinking water in the storm--but now you know. Enjoy...

    What kind of camera took those pictures? They are great. Not having toured the BWCAW while living in MN is one of my greatest regrets. I'll have to have me some of that action some day.

    Jason, maybe next year you come to MN and we go. Then you will have no regrets.

    Thanks for the nice words about the pictures. They barely approach the great quality of yours...but they were from the handy point-and-click Cannon Elph 370Z. It is my 'camping camera.'

    I would just like to say, I KNEW IT!! Get you boys together for a weekend of bats, brew, and bwca and even the Northern Lights celebrate! Your pictures are fantastic, especially the closeup of the hottie with the backback and bulging calf muscles, huba huba!

    hmmm...I guess that you are talking about Jon. He is the runner of the group and his calf muscles are pretty hot!

    What a weekend. I still can't stop telling people how beautiful it was up there. No fish, but steak and grog substituted just fine. These pics are much better than mine. I'm hoping to someday get copies of Jason's pics too. I'd love to get copies of your pics if its easy.

    By Thursday I should be done with my paper, we should definitely meet up at least once before you start class yourself...time to equalize.
